About this unit

Stories That Stick is a complete seven-lesson narrative writing unit for Years 7–8, aligned to Australian Curriculum v9.0 (AC9E7LE03, AC9E7LE07, AC9E8LE06, AC9E7LY06, AC9E8LY06). Australian spelling throughout.

Students move from the story arc to STEAL characterisation, show-don't-tell, setting and atmosphere, and correctly punctuated dialogue. They then plan a timed draft matched to the 42-minute NAPLAN writing test, revise it and write an assessed narrative.

Inside:

  • Teacher notes and Support/Core/Extension activities
  • Original annotated strong and weak model stories
  • Writer's toolkit, self and peer checklists
  • Assessment task with prompts
  • 10-criterion NAPLAN-style rubric with A–E conversion
  • Full answer keys and a curriculum code table
  • An editable 45-slide PowerPoint with speaker notes

Created by The Classroom Resource Library. For single-classroom use.
