About this unit

Linear Relations: Expressions, Equations & Graphs is a complete nine-lesson algebra unit for Year 8, aligned to Australian Curriculum v9.0 (AC9M8A01, AC9M8A02, AC9M8A03, AC9M8A04). Australian spelling throughout.

Students start with algebra tiles and the area model to simplify, expand and factorise. They then solve equations and one-variable inequalities with the balance model and verify by substitution. Next they build tables of values, graph straight lines, read gradient and y-intercept, and solve equations graphically. A digital-tools investigation tests conjectures about y = mx + c, and a modelling lesson applies linear rules to taxi fares, water tanks and pay rates.

Inside:

  • Teacher notes, a diagnostic check and nine detailed lesson plans with worked examples
  • Support/Core/Extension worksheets for every lesson
  • Printable algebra tiles, a 16-card "four ways to show a line" card sort and an investigation sheet
  • Nine exit tickets
  • "The best quote" modelling task (30 marks) with rubric
  • 50-mark end-of-unit test with grade bands
  • Full worked answer keys and a curriculum code table
  • An editable 65-slide PowerPoint with speaker notes
